On My Own

Just last week, I moved away from my family. My parents thought that I might eventually want to live independently. When they first told me about this, I was pretty sure they were trying to say that I'd live in an apartment and have to do everything for myself with no assistance whatsoever- tasks like cooking, cleaning, paying bills, shopping, and paying rent. When you have lived under your parents' roof for so long, the idea of living away from them for the first time can seem pretty scary at first. It took me a little while before I realized what they really had in mind- for me to live in a group setting, where I'd be able to meet lots of people, as well as get help with the tasks that are quite difficult for me.
